Fishing Seasons and Information
Fishing seasons vary - these are general timings. You will note that some fisheries overlap with others, often providing a combination fishing trip that allows you to try angling for different fish, and utilizing different methods. For instance, it is possible to salmon and sturgeon fish on the same day.
Sturgeon - March through November - our most sought after fish due to sheer size, power and fighting ability. Salmon:
Chinook - (Kings) May through October - mostly bar fishing, late season pulling plugs, spoons. Coho - (Silvers) late September to early November - fly, spin, or bait fishing. Chum - October and November - fly, spin and drift fishing. Pink - Available early September to early October on odd numbered years (ie. 2011) - flyfishing and spinning on light gear is best! Steelhead - December through April - fly best in March and April, spin and drift fish December through April. Trout - October through April - fly fishing best method.
Sturgeon fishing is our most popular fishing adventure. This is because sturgeon offer unique and incredible sportfishing qualities, they grow to immense sizes and sturgeon are in limited locations - only a few rivers on the west coast of North America offer fishable numbers.
The season for sturgeon is generally March through November.
Salmon fishing is very popular. Chinook are our summer fish of choice and are generally available May through mid October, with the peak being early July to mid October. Coho and chum salmon have become increasingly popular, particularly with flyfishing methods. Spin and drift fishing are also very effective methods for chum and coho.
Pink salmon means it is time to get out (September) and really catch fish. Pinks return to the Fraser River systems by the millions in odd numbered years (next major run is 2011, 2013, 2015, etc) and offer excellent fishing opportunities with all methods for anglers young and old, regardless of fishing experience!
